Elephants in the Fog follows Pirati, the matriarch of a small Kinnar (transgender) community living on the outskirts of a Nepali village near a wild elephant forest. She secretly wants to leave her community to be with the man she loves, but when her youngest "daughter" Apsara vanishes during a night patrol, Pirati is forced to stay and search for her. The investigation brings her face to face with the village's hostility toward her community and conflict within her own family. Ultimately, she must choose between personal freedom and her duty as a leader and mother.
